FIRST DEER

Courtney Ignat, 11, of Houghton Lake, shot her first deer while hunting in Blaney Park, in the Upper Peninsula’s Schoolcraft County, on Oct. 22. Ignat used a Horton Vision 175 Crossbow, which she had won at the Houghton Lake Long Beard’s National Wild Turkey Dinner, to take the doe at 13 yards. According to her father, Michael, who she was hunting with, Courtney has recently taken an interest in watching outdoor shows and finds women in the outdoors an up and coming trend and wants to be one.
