Grand, glorious ‘Welcome Home’

Last Thursday on November 11th I attended the annual Veterans Day Program presented by the senior class at Houghton Lake High School. What a special day that was for me and so many others.

It began with a fine breakfast followed by profound speeches and beautiful music. I was so moved that it was often difficult to keep from choking up with emotion throughout the event. I was overwhelmed by the dozens of “thank you’s,” handshakes and hugs that I received for my service so long ago. It was wonderful.

When I returned from overseas 40 years go, my homecoming was bittersweet. Attitudes towards veterans were so much different in those days. So now please let it be my turn to say “thank you” from deep in my heart to all of those who made this event happen. For me, it was like a grand and glorious “Welcome Home.”

God Bless the USA Dale E. Rumsley Prudenville
