Scaffolding collapse kills Prudenville man
Prudenville resident Lee David Syckle, 61, died Tuesday after being injured at a construction site at Pellston Regional Airport when falling scaffolding loaded with cement blocks landed on him about 3:30 p.m. Emergency personnel began CPR upon arrival and he was then transported to Northern Michigan Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Syckle was reportedly working on an $8 million facility to house snow removal, firefighting and aircraft rescue equipment at the airport.
According to Emmett County Sheriff Peter A. Wallin workers had erected the scaffolding and were preparing to build a block wall prior to the collapse. Syckle was working for Grand Traverse Construction as a mason.
