Lee D. Syckle

Lee D. Syckle, 61, Prudenville, died Dec. 28, 2010, as a result of a construction accident at Pellston Regional Airport.

Memorial services will be held at Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel beginning at 3 p.m. Jan. 8. The memorial will be officiated by his sisters, Patricia Sibbald and Joanna Kernstock. Interment will be in Denton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Born Dec. 22, 1949 in Midland, he was the son of Harvey Leon and Frances A. (Foster) Syckle. He grew up in Midland and graduated from Midland High School in 1969. He served as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corp in Vietnam from 1971 to 1973. He married Veniesa Ann Knox Sept. 29, 1973, at Houghton Lake. He worked as a brick mason on many commercial buildings throughout northern Michigan. He made frequent hunting and fishing trips to the Houghton Lake area before moving here in 1977. As a sports enthusiast, he loved to umpire softball games and youth basketball as well as racing stock cars at Merritt Speedway. His favorite pastime was deer hunting and he enjoyed the time spent in the woods with his three sons. When not in the woods or refereeing local sports, he loved to watch NASCAR and sports.

Surviving are his wife, Veniesa; three sons, David (Katie) Syckle of Cedar Springs, Adrian Syckle of Houghton Lake and Danny Syckle of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughter, Ava; three sisters, Patricia (Don) Sibbald of Midland, Joanna (John) Kernstock of Bay City and Nancy (Tom) Gregory of Midland; his parents and several nieces and nephews.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to direct them to the family to be used in a memorial fund which will be established at a later date.
