Four youth wrestlers finish first

Nineteen Houghton Lake Youth Wrestlers brought home medals from the team’s first regular season NEMWA tournament Jan. 8 in Grayling.

Earning first place medals were Evan Hall (7/8, 49 pounds), David Johnson (9/10, 63 pounds), Kolby Werra (9/10, heavyweight) and Zach McCully (11/12, 133 pounds).

Second place medals went to Dylan Kelly (7/8, 55 pounds), Reece Smith (7/8, 55 pounds), Jimmy Couch (9/10, 59 pounds), Dakota Thornton (9/10, heavyweight) and Cameron Fulco (11/12, 100 pounds). Third place medalists included Brant Bontekoe (7/8, 72 pounds), Lance Canfield (7/8, 82 pounds), Hunter Tyrrell (9/10, 59 pounds), Greyson Tyrrell (9/10, 63 pounds), Tyler Haggart (9/10, 75 pounds), Tyler Majeske-Petras (9/10, 90 pounds), Mary Green (11/12, heavyweight) and Kurt Knoll (13/14, 120 pounds). Fourth place medalists were Sean Patti (7/8, 55 pounds) and Andrew Shepard (7/8, heavyweight).

In total, 24 Houghton Lake Youth Wrestlers competed in Saturday’s match.
