Thomas Dale Smith

Thomas Dale Smith, 78, St. Helen, died Jan. 16, 2011, at West Branch Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

A memorial service will be held at International Cafe, Prescott, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be directed towards Regional Dialysis Service of West Branch.

Born July 15, 1932, he was the son of Marshall and Lena Smith. He was formerly of Prescott. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything to do with horses. He especially enjoyed horse shows with his son, Tom. He was a horse trader, having a truck with “Honest Tom the Horse Trader” and “Tom Smith and Son Horse Trading” written on the sides. Later in life, his favorite pastime was golf carting around the community with his companion, Star, his Jack Russell terrier. He was a lifelong member of Whittemore Speedway Association, owned a farm in Prescott and retired from Jefferson Trucking in National City after more than 25 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Mildred Lutz.

Surviving are his wife, Gwen; son, Thomas Dean (Ann) Smith; stepdaughter, Cynthia (Lee) Reyna; stepson, Scott (Rainelle) Boettner; four grandchildren, Dr. Krista (Scott) Haines, Bryan Smith, Michelle Reyna and Alisha Jones; twin sister, Ruth Dewelly; foster son, Tony Dailey and special longtime friends Harry Flanagan, Lois Warner and Barbara Anderson.

The family wishes to thank Regional Dialysis Service/West Branch for the compassionate care given to Tom over the years.
