Household Hazardous Waste Day scheduled for June 4
Roscommon County’s spring Household Hazardous Waste collection is around the corner.
The semi-annual collection is slated for June 4. The event will be held in the parking lot of the Roscommon County Health Department building, 1015 Short Drive (M-18 at the M-157 intersection) just north of Prudenville, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Waste that will be accepted by Drug and Laboratory, Inc., Plainwell, will be factory-labeled: Caution, corrosive, danger, flammable, poison, reactive, toxic or warning. These items may include aerosols, auto liquids, household batteries, cleaners, corrosives, fertilizers, glue, herbicides, medicines, oil-based paints, pesticides, solvents and smoke detectors/ fire alarms.
Other items accepted by local vendors will be: Clean Styrofoam containers, plates, cups and packaging (no peanuts) broken down in clear plastic bags, if possible; ammunition; vehicle batteries; cell phones; computers & TV’s; grocery coupons (to send to troops overseas); ink jet and toner printer cartridges; used motor oil; tires on or off rims – up to six per household; and latex paint (in good usable condition and container must be half-full).
Items should be separated by category and ready to drop off before getting to the Drug & Lab truck at the end of the line. Not accepted are explosives, bombs, fireworks, propane tanks or building materials of any kind. (Call 275-3163 for specific handling of these items.)
The collection is funded by townships within Roscommon County and is free to Roscommon County residents only. Collections are scheduled for the Saturday following Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.
