Harold John Galdes
Cremation took place in Florida. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on June 11 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Roscommon.
Mr. Galdes was born on Sept. 22, 1924, the son of John and Carrie Galdes. He grew up in Detroit and later lived in Redford Township and retired in Roscommon. He was a graduate of Cass Tech High School. He served in the Navy in the construction battalion in the Philippines and in World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1946.
Mr. Galdes was married to Marian E. Swain for 62 years. He worked for Lachman and Co. as a window trimmer and manager of the camera department. He then apprenticed and became an engineer for the Detroit Board of Education until his retirement in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Marian; sons; Larry, Russell, and Ronald; sister,
Marie; brothers, Manfred, Gordon and John Jr; and grandchildren, Kristina, Kerry, Christopher, and Megan.
Preceding him in death were his brothers, Joseph and Roy.
He enjoyed camping with his three sons, particularly when they were able to go swimming, canoeing and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking, backyard mechanics, golfing with friends, traveling with Marian, helping friends and neighbors when needed and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
