Site plan approved for assisted living facility in Lake Twp.

A new housing option may be available to seniors now that the Lake Township Planning Commission has approved a site plan for an assisted living facility.

The commission Sept. 20 approved a site plan review for the proposed facility to be housed at the former Whitehead’s Restaurant, located on Old 27, just north of M-55.

Randy Nugent, owner of the former restaurant, and Brian Dull proposed the 20-unit facility to the three-member quorum (Chairman Harry Duwe and member Jim Maiani were absent).

Member Bruce Olson said he and members Nancy Hose and Byron “Jake” Jacobus reviewed the site plan, which will maintain a similar footprint as the former restaurant.

Among the issues to be handled on the project by the developers are fencing, setbacks and bringing the building up to code.

Olson said the next step for developers is financing and that, depending on weather, the project could be completed in about a year.
