The Council of Catholic Women at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, located on Houghton Lake’s North Shore, are participating in a “Little Dresses for Haiti” project. The simple dresses, many fashioned by modifying pillowcases, are being made in various lengths and feature a variety of trims and bias-tape ties that can be adjusted for size. There has been a good response to the project, with over 150 dresses on hand, and new materials and supplies being donated each weekend. The group is also making simple quilts which will be sent to Haiti, many using the scraps from the dresses. The first shipment of dresses will travel to Haiti in early October and the group hopes to receive photo feedback of the actual dress distribution. Pictured holding some of the first dresses made are (left to right) Barbara Rapson, Kyra Toburen, granddaughter of parishioners Vaughn and RuthAnn Everhart, and JoAnn Jaruzel.
