Bobcats, Bucks ‘great game to witness’

Jack Pine Central
By Mike Metzger Bucks Bobcats www.michiganhelmetproject.org

All the games from the Jack Pine Conference this week were pretty straight forward wins...with the exception of the Meridian and Gladwin game.

I am not sure what it was in this game, was Gladwin that good or Meridian that bad? I know that the Mustangs had to be itching to win this game by a large score…but they did not. Perhaps the Flying Gs are a team that may actually have some potential this season, despite their lackluster start of 1-4.

Clare continued to show why they are the alpha dog of the JPC after their big victory over Harrison. Now, it was not a complete blowout by any means, but I feel that Clare continued to prove that they are indeed the team to beat in the conference.

Farwell got back on the right page with their blowout victory over Beaverton this week. However, what surprised me is that Farwell relied heavily on their run game. Keegan Rohdy exploded for 203 yards on the ground. I expected that Farwell was going to try an aerial attack against Beaverton, but I was wrong.

Houghton Lake versus Roscommon was a great game to witness! It was not the blowout like I had predicted, rather it was a tough-fought game. With just under nine minutes remaining, the game was separated by but one touchdown. Then the play of the game happened in my opinion when Kyle Bates broke free for 60 yards taking any life that was left out of the Bucks. Roscommon has improved much this season, however, and I expect that they will pick up some wins down the road while Houghton Lake is in position for dare I say it…a playoff spot!

Clare 48, Roscommon 14

The Bucks have definitely improved from last season…but l still feel that Clare is on a completely different level. If Roscommon wants to have any shot then they are going to need to do two things. One, they must figure out a run/ pass combination and two they must not turn the ball over.

Houghton Lake 36, Harrison 14

The Bobcats remember losing their all-star running back to the Hornets last season. That and the fact that it is homecoming will fuel Houghton Lake in this contest. Houghton Lake is playing a smash-mouth type football game as of late and I expect that they will light the field up against Harrison. If Kolo’s 204 yards against Roscommon last week were any indication…I expect a huge game to come from him.

Meridian 56, Beaverton 6

Meridian will roll over the Beavers, plainly said.

Gladwin 28, Farwell 21

This has game of the week written all over it! Farwell is flying high after dominating Beaverton last week, Gladwin enters after a heartbreaking loss to Meridian. This is gut-check time for both of these teams and seeing as the game is in Gladwin, I will give them the edge.
