Veterans Day ceremonies planned Friday
Veterans in the Roscommon County area may attend several student-led Veteran’s Day ceremonies Nov. 11.
Roscommon High School
The Student Council at RHS will welcome veterans starting with a coffee hour in the high school cafeteria from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
A ceremony will follow at 9:30 a.m. in the gym, featuring representatives of the armed forces and performances by the high school choir.
All area veterans and their spouses may attend.
Houghton Lake High School
The Senior Class will present the 18th annual Veteran’s Day program, beginning with a breakfast reception in the cafeteria at 8:30 a.m.
Second graders from Collins Elementary will sing patriotic songs to guests at 9 a.m. Led by music teacher Donna Pettyjohn, the children will sing “God Bless the U.S.A.,” “America,” and “This is My Country.”
The program will be followed by a candlelight processional into the auditorium led by the VFW Honor Guard at 9:30 a.m.
Maj. Gen. Robert J. Kasulke will be the featured speaker.
Houghton Lake Middle School
Students at Houghton Lake Middle School will present a veteran’s program at 1:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
Students will present speeches and the band and choir will perform. Mr. Derek Boik will perform a patriotic medley.
Two drawings will be held in which two patriotic quilts will be awarded.
