Benjamin F. Little

Benjamin F. Little, 88, Higgins Lake, formerly of Greendale Township, died Jan. 14, 2012, at Mid-Michigan Regional Medical Center in Midland. 

The family will receive friends from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, and funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. Richard Duprey at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon. 

Mr. Little was born in Leaton July 21, 1923, the son of John Peter and Rachel Mary (Ricker) Little. He was raised in Greendale Township and married Dorothy June Purtill May 29, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant. They moved to Higgins Lake in 1978 following his retirement from Dow Chemical Company where he was a powerhouse superintendent for 37 years.

Mr. Little had served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 333rd Engineers Division and on D-Day he joined the 4th Infantry. He was a life member of Am Vets Post 13 at Higgins Lake, Charles M. Engel VFW Post 4159 of Roscommon and the Masonic Lodge in Alma where he had been a member for 60 years. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and ice fishing.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Dorothy, Nov. 21, 1982; a son, John B. Little; three sisters, Glenelen Denton, Ethelyn Donaldson and Myra Adamson; and two brothers, Forn and Fain Little.

Surviving are his two daughters, Marge (Mike) Dorton of Midland and Kemah, TX, and Kay (Ken) Burton of Midland; three grandchildren, Kendra Burton of Sanford, Katie Dorton of Chicago, IL, and Doug Dorton of Houston, TX; great-granddaughter, Kayla Funk of Sanford; and a sister, LaVaun (Floyd) Haffner of Woodland, WA.
