Marlene A. Galant

St. Helen resident Marlene A. Galant, 76, died Jan. 14, 2012, at her home after an extended illness. 

There will be a viewing at St. Helen Catholic Church, St. Helen, Tuesday, Jan. 17, beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m., with Father Wayne Dziekan officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands.  

Mrs. Galant was born Oct. 31, 1935. Her parents were Floyd and Adailia (Weitzel) Newkirk. She married Alexander Galant Sept. 15, 1956, in Roseville. She and her husband moved to St. Helen from Southfield in 1996.  She was a member of the St. Helen Catholic Church and the C.C.W. and was a past Girl Scout Leader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Jack Newkirk.

Surviving are her husband, Al of St. Helen; daughter, Mary Anne (Frank) Carroll; four siblings Patrick (Lorraine) Newkirk of Waterford, Sally (Dion) Jordan of Hale, Mary Ellen (Russell) Hoffman of Roswell, GA, and Judy (Michael) Tittiger of Stockbridge, GA; five grandchildren, Melissa, Lisa, Michael, Nicole and Mary; and one great-grandchild, Alexa.
