DODGING FOR CANCER FUNDS

Houghton Lake High School choir and band students came together Dec. 22, 2011, for a dodgeball fundraiser to benefit the Karmanos Cancer Center in memory of the late Rob Kunik, an English teacher at the school who died Feb. 1, 2010, of leukemia. The games also included other students and teachers and generated $455. Pictured are (left to right) Choir President Chloe Cryderman, Mrs. Brenda Kunik and Band President Alex Decker. The event as a fundraiser began a couple of years ago when HLHS graduate Brooke Webber, a friend of Kunik’s daughter, Caitlin Kunik (also a fellow Bobcat) organized a game between the teaching staff and Saginaw Valley State University. Decker said the students hope future Bobcats will make the dodgeball fundraiser an annual event.
