Bobcats drop another JPC game at Gladwin

The Houghton Lake varsity girls basketball team traveled to Gladwin Feb. 17, and came home with a 49-39 Jack Pine Conference loss at the hands of the G’s.

“Tonight we struggled offensively,” said Houghton Lake Coach Angie Dalak, “There was no flow and we couldn’t get anything going. It was frustrating, not the way we wanted to go into next week.”

The Bobcats started out by taking the first quarter 10-6, but by halftime, the G’s had a 24-17 lead. The Bobcats battled to a 28-27 lead in the third quarter, but a big 21-11 run by Gladwin in the fourth sealed the deal.

Leading scoring for the ’Cats was Kelly Julin with 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Gill Carroll was next in line with nine points, two assists, two steals and three rebounds, followed by Maddee Winkler with seven points, four steals and 10 rebounds, Kaitlyn Hans with six points, two steals and three rebounds, Sa’Taitshia Mims with four points, eight rebounds and two steals and Taylar Akin with five rebounds.

The Bobcats (3-15) were scheduled to host Meridian Feb. 21 and Roscommon on Feb. 24. The Bobcats will begin District play Feb. 29 in Cheboygan. A 7 p.m. tip off is planned with the Chiefs.
