Butler resigns after 20 years on Roscommon Village Council

By Krista Tacey-Cater

After 20 years of service to the Village of Roscommon Council, trustee Mike Butler submitted his letter of resignation to President Erine Adams during the council’s Feb. 27 meeting.

Butler will remain on the council for another month as he said he would like to be able to offer his services where needed and have the opportunity to wrap up any loose ends. Butler’s resignation will be effective on March 31.

He requested that he be able to remain the liaison between the village and the Roscommon Area District Library as his term on the library board will continue for another four years. Butler is the village’s committee chair for the library and gives updates on the status of the library.

Butler called his service “an honor and a pleasure.” He said he would like to see former village president Jesse Carlson become his replacement.

Trustee Jon Suvada said he would like to see the position advertised so the public has the opportunity to apply.

Carlson said he would be “willing to put his best foot forward” if he is selected to fill the open position. He added he believes it would be fair to have the position advertised.
