Bonnie Galey

Former St. Helen resident Bonnie Galey, 54, died March 20, 2012 at her Ortonville home after a heroic battle with triple negative breast cancer.

Funeral services were held March 24 at Oakland Woods Baptist Church, Clarkston.

Born Jan. 10, 1958 in McAllen, TX, she was the daughter of the late JS and Martha Barbee.

She was the wife of Pastor Bob Galey and the couple began ministering in Michigan 23 years ago. They first served at Lake St. Helen Baptist Church and have been at Oakland Woods Baptist Church of Clarkston since 1994. She was first a Pastor’s wife, mother and homemaker. Before becoming disabled she worked as a secretary for the Baptist State Convention of Michigan for 14 years. She participated in several mission trips and loved to travel to historical places around the United States. She was a gift to everyone who knew her and an inspiration to thousands who followed her blog about her faith and the fight she had with cancer.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Pastor Bob Galey; two sons, Robert (Tiffany) Galey and Greg Galey; one daughter, Abby Galey; one brother, Charles (Paula) Barbee; three sisters, Martha (Hal) Jungman, Becky Eden and Betty (Brooks) Monk; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Barbee.

Memorial contributions can be made to Oakland Woods Baptist Church and will be used to help her daughter, Abby, complete a seminary master’s degree in worship and church music. Coats Funeral Home, Waterford, handled the arrangements.
