The first book to be discussed June 30 is “The Tale of Despereaux.” (Courtesy photo) Registration is now taking place for the first meeting of the Kids and Companions Book Club.

Intended for kids ages eight to 12 and an adult companion, the club provides an opportunity to share a book with your favorite young person. Kids and an adult of their choice meet monthly for an easygoing book discussion and activity.

The library’s first book selection is “The Tale of Despereaux,” by Kate Di- Camillo. The story tells of a journey of a mouse, a rat and a young girl, with an impossible wish. The three characters embark on a journey that leads them down into a horrible dungeon, up into a glittering castle and into each other’s lives.

The library staff promises that readers, no matter the age, will “love this story.” The companion movie (rated G) will be shown immediately following the discussion.

Multiple copies of the book are available for checkout. The discussion will take place June 30 from 10 to 11a.m. Juice, coffee and donuts will be served.
