State track and field meet this Saturday

Six athletes from Roscommon County will be competing at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 state track and field meet this Saturday (June 2) at Comstock Park.

Houghton Lake’s Tim Malcomson will be the lone Bobcat making the trip and will be competing in both the high jump and long jump events. This is Malcomson’s second straight trip to the finals in the high jump.

For Roscommon, five athletes will be competing at the finals.

For the boys’ squad, Matt Morley and Eric Rowland will be competing. Morley will be competing in the discus event and Rowland in the 400-meter dash. This is Rowland’s third straight season competing at the MHSAA finals.

Qualifying for the girls’ squad are Emilie Gaberdiel, Crystal Richter and Reagan Moffit. Gaberdiel will be competing in the high jump event, Richter in the pole vault event and Moffit in the 800-meter run. This is Richter’s second straight year competing in the pole vault in the finals.

The gates for the state meet will open at 8 a.m. with field events beginning at 9:30 a.m. and preliminary running events at 10 a.m.

The MHSAA will be providing live video of the finals on www.mhsaa.tv and www foxsportsdetroit.com. Morning coverage is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and will cover the 3200-meter relay finals and the preliminaries and semifinals in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and high hurdles. Afternoon coverage is slated to begin at 12:30 p m. and will include all of the other running finals.
