‘Bigger government’ never ‘better government’

This letter is in response to Mr. Emmons from the Citizens for Township Consolidation. Your letter in last week’s Resorter seems to be a direct attack on the Lake Township Board. I was at that meeting on May 8. Were you? The comments that were made against consolidation came at the public comment time of the meeting. I, for one, and others from the people in attendance made most of those comments, not the board. Even if the board had, they are taxpayers also and have a right to speak at the public comment time. As far as the board’s wages and expenses of the township they are public information and are reviewed at the monthly meetings. You would know this if you have ever been to one of Lake Township’s meetings. I have attended the meetings for over three years and have never seen you at one. Yes, there is a group forming that has serious concerns about consolidation and I am one of them. I am not a township board member or employee or related to an employee. Just a concerned taxpayer that does not want to see my taxes go up and services go down. Bigger government has never been better government. You have invited the public to a meeting that I will attend, but it is interesting how it is at the same time and date as the Lake Township board meeting. It makes it hard for them to come and defend themselves. I for one think this board has done a great job of reducing expenses and saving money for the taxpayers of Lake Township. You owe the Lake Township board an apology for your misinformation.
