Dog killed by suspected wolf hybrids

Roscommon County Animal Control confirmed Monday that a small dog was killed July 17 in the neighborhood of Dollena Avenue. The neighborhood is on the south shore of Houghton Lake.

Neighbors of the homeowners whose dog was killed told the Resorter the dog was a small white dog that was attacked by two large dogs, suspected of being wolf hybrids.

Animal Control Officer Dee Dee Mendyk confirmed that the two large dogs are suspected of being hybrids. She said Animal Control Director Terry McKillop was also on the scene, but the dog owners retrieved the dogs. She said the animals are being detained pending a court date with their owner before 82nd District Court Magistrate Sherry Blaisus. No date has been set yet.

Mendyk said other than the small dog being killed, no other injuries were reported.
