Jessie Jean Hoffman

Houghton Lake Heights resident Jessie J. Hoffman, 81, died Dec. 8, 2012, at King Nursing & Rehabilitation Community. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel. A service will be Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. at Houghton Lake United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Tom Anderson. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Evart. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Advantage Hospice of West Branch.

She was born Aug. 15, 1931, in Evart, the daughter of Archie and Jennie (Brown) Smock. She worked at Houghton Lake Community Schools and Traverse Bay Woolen Company for years. She enjoyed making Christmas candy. She was a member of the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church, Houghton Lake Eastern Star and the Houghton Lake Eagles Auxiliary. 

Preceding her in death were her father, Archie Smock; mother, Jennie Smock; daughter, Lynae Rhodes; son, Steve Hanneman; brothers, John Smock, George Smock and Art Smock; sisters, Geneva Maddern, Bessie Ching and Geraldine Smock.

Surviving are her daughters, Jillonne Deroshia of Holt and Stacy White of Seattle, WA; son, Wendell Hanneman of Hemlock; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob Smock of Manistee and Arlie Smock of Muskegon; son-in-law, Alton Rhodes of Houghton Lake; sisters, Julia Hartman of Muskegon, Harriette Kidder of Hart and Mary Devereaux of Baldwin.
