Kathy L. (Boerner) Richards

Houghton Lake resident Kathy L. (Boerner) Richards, 55, formerly of Mio, died Jan. 20, 2013, at her home.

A service was held Jan. 25 at Mio United Methodist Church, Mio, with Pastor Terry Brooks officiating. Interment was in Mentor Township  Cemetery, Mio. Arrangements were handled by Lashley Funeral Home, Mio.

She was born on April 21, 1957, in West Branch, the daughter of Roy and Jean (Maier) Boerner. She graduated from Mio High School with the Class of 1975 and married Gerald “Bud” Richards on Sept. 27, 1980, at the Mio United Methodist Church in Mio.  

She and her husband had worked at Glen’s Market before moving to Houghton Lake, where she worked as a dental assistant for 18 years at Houghton Lake Dentistry for Dr. Bob Pacella. She enjoyed sewing, playing the piano, gardening, doing jigsaw puzzles, being in the woods, taking long walks, listening to music and snow-shoeing in the winter.  

She will be remembered as a loving wife and as a devoted and loving mother, who always had a beautiful smile.

Preceding her in death was her mother, Jean Boerner, in 2004.

Surviving Mrs. Richards are her husband, Gerald “Bud” Richards of Houghton Lake; sons, Justin C. Richards of Cadillac and Brandon D. Richards of Mio; father, Roy Boerner of Mio; sister, Rebecca (Kenneth) DesArmo; brothers, Michael Boerner and Robert Boerner; goddaughter, Lauren DesArmo; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

Memorial donations may be made to the Roscommon County Animal Shelter, 1110 Short Dr., Prudenville, MI 48651.
