McDonald’s site plan approved for property near Walmart
The Denton Township Planning Commission, following a public hearing March 5, approved the site plan for a new McDonald’s restaurant at Houghton Lake.
McDonald’s representatives answered questions from Chairman Bill Oliver and the rest of the five-member board.
Area Construction Manager Iggy Pipitone said he is uncertain when construction of the 4,200-square foot restaurant could begin. He said the new building, to be located at the east entrance of Walmart, will not have a “PlayPlace.”
Pipitone said the existing McDonald’s, located next to Glen’s Market, will probably be demolished and the land sold. Denton Township Clerk Carol Ahser, who serves on the Planning Commission, asked if something else could be located in the existing building and Pipitone said that it is a real estate matter.
Oliver made a motion to accept the site plan as presented, providing Michigan Department of Transportation requirements are met, and it carried, 4-1, with member Jim Debo casting the only no vote.
“It looks like a wonderful plan,” planning commission member Joann Walsh said.
Asher told the Resorter, “They do have their ducks in a row.”
