Frederick Ernest Manhire

Frederick Ernest Manhire, 85, Prudenville, died Mar. 27, 2013 at West Branch Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon on March 30 at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel, with the Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Romeo Cemetery in Romeo. Visitation will be held on March 30 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Born Sept. 14, 1927, in Detroit, he was the son of Frederick and Beatrice (White) Manhire. He had been a prisoner of war during the Korean War when serving as a corporal in the U.S. Army. He worked as a welder with the Iron Worker’s Union in the Detroit area. He married Sophie M. Obova on Jan. 1, 1965, and she preceded him in death. The couple moved from Hamtramck to the Houghton Lake area over 30 years ago and he was a member of Houghton Lake VFW Post #4034 and the Grayling and Houghton Lake Masonic Lodges.

Surviving are his step-daughter, Beverly Rhodes of Washington, MI; three brothers, Roy, Percy and Bruce and many friends in the Houghton Lake area.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Houghton Lake VFW Post #4034.
