(Photo courtesy of the Michigan State Police) State Police from the Houghton Lake Post are investigating a rollover crash that claimed the life of a 48-year-old Gladwin man April 15.

According to an MSP press release dated the same day, the crash occurred on Trail 6 in Backus Township at approximately 7:15 p.m. A 27-year-old male driver from Cedar was operating a “heavily modified Jeep Wrangler” when he lost control upon striking a tree along the trail.

The vehicle rolled over and all four occupants were ejected. The driver and a 21-year-old female passenger from Gladwin were transportState ed to West Branch Regional Medical Center by Denton Township Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries, along with a 51-year-old female passenger from Gladwin, who was listed in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation indicated that seat belts were not being worn by any of the occupants of the vehicle at the time of the crash, and alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Sgt. David Johnson said that the incident is still under investigation, and that no arrests had been made as of the morning of April 19.
