Sixth annual trail run/walk 5K Saturday at HLHS

For the sixth year, runners and walkers may take to the trail at Houghton Lake High School Saturday to help out the school’s cross country team.

The Houghton Lake Trail Run/Walk 5K will start at 9 a.m. Coach Keith Toms said there are 170 participants signed up so far. He said that number is “good” and 200 is “really good.” More people are expected to sign up later in the week, he said.

Sign-up will take place Friday at the school from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

The event is a fundraiser for the high school’s cross country team. Registration is $15 for students (first through 12th grades) and $25 per person. Extra T-shirts are available (first come, first served).

The top five males and females will receive trophies and the top two finishing walkers (male and female) will get trophies. All participants will receive finishing medals and the top three age group finishers will receive certificates in the mail.
