Inaugural Down Home Opry comes to Falmouth April 23

A Down Home Opry, sponsored by Marilyn’s Music, will take place April 23 at the Big Red Barn, 2431 East Work­man Rd., Falmouth.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. Ad­mission is $5 per person. Myers hopes to make the concert an annual event.

Guests are encouraged to bring their dancing shoes or just clap along to the rhythm of great music.

The line-up consists of some old friends and some new performers as well:

• Marilyn Myers on guitar – My­ers, the owner of Marilyn’s Music Store, began performing professionally in her teens with the Wolverine Bud­dies on WATT, WHGR and WBPN-TV. She continued performing profession­ally with various groups throughout the United States.

She has instructed pupils on various stringed instruments since 1970. Many of those students now play profession­ally.

• Jagwire Country Band – Members consist of Danny Hullihen on pedal steel guitar, Marty Roberts on lead guitar, Jaxie Hartman on bass guitar and Randy Wooley on drums.

Hullihen, a Hall of Fame steel gui­tar player, performed with Grand Ole Opry stars Little Jimmy Dickens, Claude King, Jeanne Pruett, Jim Stafford, Steve Wariner and Tammy Wynette, as well as with his own bands.

• Susie Nolff, of the original Nolf Family Singers. Nolff is a well-known country singer who returns to her roots in Michigan after performing profes­sionally throughout the United States.

• Pictures of Grace Gospel Quar­tet – Marvin Quist, lead; Keith Jenema, tenor; Dwight Carpenter, baritone; and Sidney King, bass. The Butterfield Band will perform with them. Members of the band are Carlotta Palozzilo on keyboard, Hartman on bass guitar and Myers on lead guitar.

• Cameron Baas, a young musician on guitar and vocals.

• Logan Stogiera, a young musician on guitar and vocals.

• Barry Francek, on pedal steel guitar.

• Cody Stewart, on guitar and vocals, who has been featured at the Hayloft in Traverse City, where he has been for sev­eral years.

The Big Red Barn is located on Workman Road. Take M-55 to 8 Mile, head south for four miles and then turn east on Workman Road. For information call Myers at (231) 328-9490 or (231) 920-4814.
