Captain Lawrence Ralph Hogaboom

Captain Lawrence Ralph Hogaboom, 75, died April 16, 2017, in Hartland.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 22, at Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church, until the time of the 1 p.m. service which will be of­ficiated by the Rev. Bryan Thompson. Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.

Born May 18, 1941, in Watertown, NY, he was the son of the late Ralph Roland and Florence Idalla (Franklin) Hogaboom. He graduated from Oswe­go

High School, New York. He served in the United States Army, including a tour in Korea. He married Lynda E. Murdoch June 1, 1968 in Montgomery, NY. They graduated from the Salvation Army School for Officers Training in New York City in 1972. Together they served as officers in the Salvation Army in Sayre, PA, and Cheboygan, Owosso and Livingston County. They retired in 1999 and in 2003 they moved to Hough­ton Lake.

In retirement, he enjoyed being part of Forgotten Man Ministries and min­istering at Maxie Training School, No­komis Challenge Center and Shawono Center. He also made many beautiful items from wood. His hobby throughout his life was playing chess.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Donald (Rebecca) Hogaboom of Highland and Jonathon Hogaboom of Lansing; grand­children, Jeremy, Donna and Noah; sister, Beverly Ahern of Leesburg, FL; and brother, Roy (Betty) Hogaboom of Milton-Free Water, OR.
