Becky Halloran

Becky Halloran, Traverse City, died May 7, 2017, at her daughter's home in Traverse City, surrounded by her three daughters and many grandchildren.

Her family will have a private memorial service later in the summer. A Facebook page has been established as an "online memorial" for her; search BeckyLeeHalloranMemorialPage and leave a comment or share a story or photo.

She was born in Minneapolis, MN, Sept. 23, 1944, the daughter of Fred and Elsie (Wanhala) Buhrt. She studied business at the University of Minnesota before marrying her childhood sweetheart, Pat Halloran, in 1966.

She was a loving mother and grandmother, a dear friend to her sister and brothers and a wonderful interior decorator. Her advice on how to put a home together was sought after by many in the communities in which she lived. She had a knack for creating beautiful spaces that people wanted to gather in.

Mrs. Halloran settled with her husband and raised her family in Milford, where she was a business owner and an active community member, both at her home parish of St. Mary's Church and the local chamber of commerce.

She and her husband retired to both Houghton Lake and Venice, FL. She was well loved and was often called the "life of the party" and "a very classy" woman. She was always ready to plan the neighborhood barbecue or work the church fair. She left an impression on everyone she met and was a friend to many.

In her younger years, she owned and operated a chain of custom framing and craft stores in the Milford area called The Stitching Bee. She was also a local hero and named for countless leadership awards throughout her lifetime.

She loved lake living and lived on inland lakes in Michigan most of her adult life. Planting geraniums or floating on a boat with a glass of Diet Coke full of ice was the perfect afternoon for her and her family. In her later years, she enjoyed the ocean in Venice, FL, and spent many days dolphin watching at local beaches while "sunning" with her Diet Coke nearby.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband of 46 years, Pat.

Mrs. Halloran is survived by her three children, Colleen Casanova, Kelly (Mike) Kazmierski and Meghan (Ron) Sergeant; nine grandchildren; brothers, Mike (Mary) and Randy Buhrt; and sister and best friend, Bonnie (Russ) Anderson.
