The Bobcats’ team score of 320 bested Manton, 359, Clare, 369, Roscommon, 370, Gladwin, 375, Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart, 378, McBain, 393 and Farwell, 421. The Bobcats won the championship as an individual event, and also in terms of season totals.

Brock Decker was the championship medalist for the third year in a row, shooting a 74 in the 18- hole event. Second was Jackson Blanchard with a 75, and both Decker and Blanchard were named First Team All Conference. The third lowest Bobcat score of the day was a 78 recorded by Cam Sidelko, who was named Second Team All Conference. Other Houghton Lake scores were Mac Markiewicz, 93, Kaden Weirauch 99 and Kolton Woods, 101.

“I’m proud of the team,” said Houghton Lake Coach Andy Meikle. “They played hard and continued to battle despite some guys having rough starts. Mac shot a 44 on his second nine after turning at 49, and Kaden shot his best score this year. It was a good outing for the team.”

Roscommon’s fourth place effort was led by senior Clay Jaskowski, who took 10th place individually with an 86. Other Buck scores included Skylar Rohde, 93 (13th place individually), Tyler Hatfield, 94, Riley McNamara, 97, Tyler Bee, 100 and Joe Serum, 102.

In their last MMGC duel match of the regular season, Houghton Lake defeated Farwell at Eagle Glen Golf Course May 11. The Bobcats won the nine-hole event 158 to 202.

Bobcat junior Decker was the medalist with a 35-stroke round, followed in second and third by teammates Sidelko, 37 and Blanchard, 40. Other Houghton Lake scores were Markiewicz, 46, Woods, 48 and Zach Taylor, 66. The Bobcats were undefeated in MMGC play going into the league championship.

“There is still room for improvement, but I liked some of the things I saw on the course today,” said Meikle after the round against Farwell. “We start playing in some bigger events going forward with two invitationals next week with some good competition. Should be good preparation for Regionals down the road,” said Meikle.

The Bobcats were scheduled to play in the Gaylord Invitational May 16, the Katke Classic Invitational in Big Rapids May 19-20, and the Nightmare Invitational in West Branch May 25. Regionals will be held at the Nightmare Golf Course May 31.
