Dale Thomas Sandera

Dale Thomas Sandera, 70, Houghton Lake, died Aug. 4, 2017, at Saginaw VA Hospital.

A service was held Aug. 8 at Good Shepherd United Method­ist Church, Roscommon, with the Rev. James Noggle officiating. Interment was in Roscommon Township Ceme­tery. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel, handled arrangements.

He was born July 14, 1947, in Cleve­land, OH, to Thomas and Norma (Ken­ny) Sandera. He grew up in Chagrin Falls, OH, graduating from Kenston High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a radar technician during the Vietnam War.

Following his time in the Air Force, he moved to Houghton Lake. He worked as a machinist for Eckerle Tools, later known as White Pine of Roscommon. He later owned Craftman’s Cove, San­dy’s Hobby Corner and Outback Cus­tom Marine at Houghton Lake. He also owned a charter boat and pizza restau­rant in Florida.

On July 1, 1995, he and Deborah Lou Riley were united in marriage in Prudenville. He was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Houghton Lake Eagles, American Mod­el Association and Roscommon Radio Control Aviators and was former exalted ruler at the Houghton-Higgins Lake Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and radio controlled planes.

Preceding him in death were his par­ents; and two brothers, Tom Sandera and Gary Sandera.

Surviving Mr. Sandera are his wife of 22 years, Deborah Lou Sandera of Houghton Lake; two sons, David (Brenda) Sandera of Houghton Lake and Kevin (Kiley Semans) Sandera of Hig­gins Lake; stepdaughter, Tracy (Rick) Aardema of Merritt; five grandchildren; two brothers, Bruce (Cheryl) Sandera of Houghton Lake and Robert Sandera of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be di­rected to Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Cen­ter, Saginaw.
