Limberlost a game away from ninth straight championship

(Photo by Erick Simons) Limberlost can assure itself of a ninth straight Houghton Lake Men’s Slo-pitch Softball League title with one more win.

After topping Sand Bar 20-12 Mon­day night, Limberlost is now 13-0 and leads second place Spikehorn by two games with two games remaining. While Spikehorn will get a crack at Limberlost Aug. 21 during the final night of play, Limberlost would have to lose both of its remaining games to force a playoff.

Spikehorn improved to 11-2 with a 16-10 win over Spicer’s. Other winners included Old Town Tavern booting Bud­weiser, 26-21, F&T outlasting Anchor Inn, 10-8, and Eagle Heating & Cooling downing Dealz on Wheelz, 13-12.

If the game would have ended af­ter four innings, Sand Bar would have handed Limberlost its first defeat of the season, 12-10. But the game didn’t end there and Limberlost outscored Sand Bar 8-0 over the final three innings to post a 20-12 win.

Kent Bergstrom won the pitching duel over Mike Mieske.

Offensively for Limberlost, Gary Eiseler hit 5-5 with two doubles to lead the winners. Steve Cnudde was 4-5 with two doubles, Levi Burkett was 4-5 with a home run and Dan Lauzon was 3-4 with a home run and a double. Corey Harsh and Brendon Hans each had a home run and a double while Ryan Hoffman and Russ Hayden each had a double.

Spikehorn 16, Spicer’s 10

Doug McRorie won the pitching battle over Jason McCanns as Spikehorn stopped Spicer’s by six, 16-10.

Leading Spikehorn at the plate were Dustin Stern and Dan Denman, who were each 3-3 with a home run. Andy Tapia also added a home run.

F&T 10, Anchor Inn 8

It took extra innings to settle the score between F&T and Anchor Inn.

Tied after seven innings, a home run by F&T in the eighth inning ended the game in F&T’s favor, 10-8, over Anchor Inn.

“It was a neck and neck game throughout with both teams playing good defense,” Anchor Inn reported.

Rob McCarn took the loss for Anchor Inn while Bobby Schleben pitched in re­lief.

Offensively for Anchor Inn, Schle­ben had a triple, McCarn had one RBI, Andrew Campbell had a double and two RBIs, Vince Austin and Todd DeLisle each had two RBIs and Mike Richardson had one RBI.
