James Martin Maurer


Former Houghton Lake resident James Martin Maurer, 82, Harrison, died Sept. 30, 2017, in Lansing.

A memorial service, of­ficiated by Pastor Dr. Jim Green, was held Oct. 6 at Parker Memorial Baptist Church, Lansing. In lieu of flowers, me­morial contributions may be made to the Parker Memorial Baptist Church Mis­sions Fund.

He was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Lan­sing, to the late Martin J. and Mildred (Peters) Maurer. He graduated from Charlotte High School Class of 1954. He served his country in the United States Army and had a 31-year career at Oldsmobile. He was a talented wood­worker and enjoyed collecting antique cars.

Preceding him in death were his grandchildren, Bethany and Benjamin Beland; and brother, Donald Maurer.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, June (Wickham); sons, Tony (Jenny Sherman) Maurer of Perry, Jim (Hol­ly) Maurer of Seville, OH, and Kenn (Tracie) Maurer of Spring Hill, TN; daughters, Becky Beland of Haslett, Gail (John) Battle of Chattanooga, TN, and Carolyn (Greg Skinner) Mau­rer of Gaylord; grandchildren, Nathan Jeckel, Bradley and Brooklyn Battle, Holly Maurer, Rachel and Zachary Be­land, Makayla, Ezekiel, Elijah, Azza­riah, Malachi and Levi Maurer, Nathan Shavalia and Simon and Shiloh Maurer; and sisters, Sondra (Jerry) Perkins and Vickie Maurer.

Arrangements were handled by Ho­lihan Atkin-Barclay Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Grand Ledge.
