James McColeman

Longtime Higgins Lake resident James McColeman, 76, died at his home in Clearwater, FL, Sept. 20, 2017.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Higgins Lake, with a graveside service Thursday, Oct. 19, to be conducted by the Rev. Bernard Tyler.

He was born Dec. 14, 1940, in Dear­born, the son of Ray and Bertha (Lackie) McColeman. He graduated from St. Al­phonsus High School in 1959. He spent more than 14 years as a computer pro­grammer for the City of Pontiac before moving to Higgins Lake in 1986 to care for his mother, Bertha. He was the owner and manager of Big Mac’s Market from 1986 until 1994. He enjoyed the Florida weather and moved there as a permanent resident in 2000.

Preceding him in death were his par­ents, Ray and Bertha McColeman.

Surviving Mr. McColeman are his brother, Bill (Dorothy) McColeman of Houghton Lake; cousins, Patrick and Madeline McColeman of Kagawong, Ontario, and Eleanor King of Vancouver, British Columbia; and dear friends, Judy and Dennis Sutton and Ann Marie Livo, all of Dearborn.
