Houghton Lake Sportsmen’s Club holding Sight-In Days

The Houghton Lake Sportsmen’s Club invites all area hunters to its annual “Sight-In Days” Nov. 13-14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. which takes place at the club’s outdoor rifle range.

The range is located at 6774 West Nestel Rd., between Tower Hill and Townline roads, Houghton Lake.

Hunters will be able to bring their rifles to the range to get them sighted in for the start of the deer hunting firearms season which begins Nov. 15. Visitors to the range will be greeted by club members and given instructions for procedures to enter the range area. All firearms must be enclosed in their case when brought onto the range.

There will be a $5 fee for each firearm to be sighted in.

As each visitor signs in, a club member will place their cased firearm inside the covered firing point table. There will be six shooting benches set up and as each bench becomes available the next shooter in line will be taken to the firing point table and will designate their firearm from the table.

The club member will uncase it, will check the barrels to assure there are no obstructions and that the firearm is not loaded. The club member will then bring the firearm to the bench where the shooter will choose what distance he or she wishes to shoot – 25 yards, 50 yards or 100 yards. Each bench will have a spotting scope available to spot hits on the target and the club member will assist the shooter in making sight adjustments as necessary.

During the process there will be other club members on hand to help with any problems that arise with the firearm and to assist in changing targets on the range. Range officers from the club will be present at all times to assure all safety rules are followed and all safety precautions are observed during the sighting in process and while on the firing line.

Members of the Houghton Lake Sportsmen’s Club look forward to welcoming area hunters and members of the community to the range facilities for this annual event.
