Mary Martha Schell

Mary Martha Schell, 92, Houghton Lake, formerly of Flint, died Oct. 22, 2017, at The Brook of Houghton Lake.

A memorial and celebration of her life will be held at Swartz Creek First Baptist Church Saturday, Nov. 18, at a time yet to be determined. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Flint. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel, handled arrangements. The fam­ily expressed its appreciation to the di­rector and staff at The Brook for their compassionate, caring assistance.

She was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Paints­ville, KY, the 10th of 13 children of Lou­is and Almeda (Sheppard) Bradley. She grew up in Kentucky and attended Mayo Business School and then moved to Rochester, IN. There she met Bill Schell. They were married April 15,1950, in Ke­wanna, IN.

In 1952, she and her husband moved to Flint. She worked as a cashier for Kroger and later as a deputy treasurer for Flint Township. She moved to The Brook of Houghton Lake in June, 2017.

Mrs. Schell was full of life, had a great sense of humor and was very funny. She was friendly and enjoyed talking to and being with people, espe­cially her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She loved music and woke up sing­ing. She also enjoyed playing games, reading and using her computer.

Preceding her in death were her hus­band, Bill Schell; and 12 siblings.

Surviving Mrs. Schell are her daugh­ter, Valerie (Roger) Kohn of Houghton Lake; son, Michael (Cathy Rogers) Schell of Burton; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
