John D. 'Jack' Hoisington

John D. “Jack” Hoisington, 82, Prudenville, died Nov. 28, 2017, at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.

A service, with military honors, will be held Saturday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. at D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd., Warren. Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 1, from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born Jan. 2, 1935, in Detroit, the son of the late Harry and Evisia (Bartles) Hoisington.

As the old adage states, "he never knew a stranger." Wherever he went, he was making friends, influencing people, and leaving a positive impact in his wake. He was more inclined to listen than to speak and was a mentor and counselor, a role he was honored to fill.

He grew up on Detroit's East Side. After graduating from high school in 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served from June, 1952, until receiving an honorable discharge in December, 1955. Stationed aboard the USS Ashland, he spent the lion's share of his time in the military in foreign service, most of it at sea.

Mr. Hoisington was a self-employed proprietor and dealer in the glass industry. He was recognized by the Glass Dealer's Association for 50 years of excellence.

He devoted himself to the brotherhood of Masons, a fraternal order of gentlemen who revered God and wanted to extend their faith in a special way. He attained the level of 3rd Degree Mason and was also a member of the Knights Templar.

Above all, he loved his family. He especially enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren on car rides and playing tour guide as he drove them by many of the glass projects he had been involved in, pointing out where he had left his mark on the city, with a humble pride.

Mr. Hoisington was the husband of the late Carol J. Hoisington; father of Taryn (Mark) Maurer and Janelle (Steve) Hite; grandfather of Elise, Shane, Zachary (Emily) and Ethan; great-grandfather of Jacob; partner of Carol "CC" Carmen and her family; brother of Bob (Linda) Hoisington, the late Bill (Leona) Hoisington, the late Paul (Betty) Hoisington and the late Jane (Maurice) Neil; brother-in-law of Joan (the late Jack) Wilds and Ron (Marilyn) Weiss; and mentor and friend to Jon Krebs. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and friends.
