Fred Edward “Ed” Bowman

Fred Edward “Ed” Bow­man, 94, Houghton Lake, died Dec. 31, 2017, at home, with his family by his side.

A memorial service will be held to­day (Thursday, Jan. 4) at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, with Pastor Ted Voll officiating. Visitation was held Wednesday, Jan. 3, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel. Interment will be in Roscom­mon Township Cemetery.

He was born July 19, 1923, in Mer­ritt to George and Aletha (Connor) Bow­man. He grew up in the Houghton Lake area, graduating from Houghton Lake Community Schools’ Stone School in 1942. He served as a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II.

Mr. Bowman worked as a real estate broker for Red Kiem Realty for many years. On April 3, 1987, at Houghton Lake, he and Carolyn Jean Kuntz were united in marriage. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Houghton Lake VFW 4034 and Prudenville Ameri­can Legion 245. He enjoyed bowling, working in his yard and was an avid golfer.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Marian VanSickle; and brother, George “Bob” Bowman.

Surviving Mr. Bowman are his wife of 30 years, Carolyn Jean Bowman of Houghton Lake; daughter, Sandy Mor­gan of Houghton Lake; three stepdaugh­ters, Linda Gabler-Florian of Alabama, Robin Wyman of Houghton Lake and Dawn (Tim) Wilson of Merritt; two brothers, John Bowman of Houghton Lake and Jack (Donna) Bowman of Holt; three sisters, Rhea (Joe) Bruno of Maryland, Joann (Cliff) Flanigan of Florida and Mary Ellen (Steve) Hoag of Florida.; sister-in-law, Lola Bowman of Houghton Lake; and several grandchil­dren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
