Guenther W. Volkenborn

Roscommon resident Guenther W. Volkenborn, 93, died March 1, 2018, in Grayling.

A service is planned for today (Thursday, March 8) at 1 p.m. at Beacon Assembly of God, Roscom­mon, with Pastor Jason Shory offi­ciating. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery, Markey Township. Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, han­dled arrangements.

He was born in Milheim, Germa­ny, Aug. 5, 1924. He was the son of the late Herman William and Lidia (Nearhaus) Volkenborn.

Mr. Volkenborn had lived in Roscommon since 1999 and had also lived in Detroit. He and Frie­da L. Forster were married June 5, 1945. His his wife preceded him in death in 2017.

For 42 years he worked for Unit­ed Airlines, retiring in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 10, 1943, to Feb. 28, 1946.

Preceding him death besides his parents and his wife, Frieda, was his son, Jonathan.

Surviving Mr. Volkenborn are his son, David (Brynda) Volkenborn of Roscommon; daughter-in-law, Jacki Volkenborn and her family; grand­daughter, Rachel Ducat; grandson, Eric Volkenborn; and sister, Ruth Engstrom and her family.

Memorial donations may be made to the family, in care of Walsh Funeral Home.
