Mike Webber of Holly holds a tagged 16-inch largemouth bass he caught in Houghton Lake while using a rubber worm near the Department of Natural Resources South Shore boat launch Friday. The lucky fish is part of the Wally the Walleye and Betty the Bass Contest sponsored by the Houghton Lake Area Tourism Bureau, Spicer’s Boat City, Lyman’s on the Lake and the Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce as well as local merchants. Webber’s fish was sponsored by Arnie’s Arts and Crafts. Another fish, caught by Bob Riedel on Aug. 21 was sponsored by the Sand’s Beachfront Resort. Both fishermen received a $50 gas card just for turning their fish in, and they and all fishermen who catch a tagged fish in the future will be eligible to win $50,000 in cash and a brand new Smoker Craft Boat package from Spicer’s Boat City. The grand prize drawing will be held April 1, 2012 at Spicer’s Boat City. (Courtesy photo) 46p1.jpg
