Elizabeth Ann (Martzowka) Feusse

Former Roscommon High School secretary Elizabeth Ann (Martzowka) Feusse, 83, died Oct. 8, 2018, in Salem, OR, at her daughter’s home.

Prior to living in Roscommon she had lived for two years in England, seven years in Florida, 10 years in Germany and three months in Oregon.

She was born in Roscommon Aug. 22, 1935. She attended Central Michigan College of Education (now Central Michigan University), where she met her future husband, Carl Edward “Kelly” Feusse. The two were married Aug. 31, 1957. They lived in Sarasota, FL, where he worked as a sports reporter, and their children Andy and Micky were born in 1962 and 1965. Then the family picked up and moved to Darmstadt, West Germany, where Mr. Feusse worked for the Stars and Stripes for 10 years. They had many happy times in Germany, skiing, camping and cruising the Rhine River.

After leaving Europe, the family returned to Roscommon, where Mrs. Feusse worked as the secretary at Roscommon High School for 25 years. Many students will fondly remember her gruff voice calling out over the loudspeaker. She lived on the banks of the AuSable River for the rest of her life, and her home became the site of much fun and good cheer for her friends and family. Loving the outdoors, one summer she canoed with her children all the way from Roscommon to Lake Huron. Mrs. Feusse also loved animals. She cared for a menagerie of wild and domestic animals for many years. After she and her husband retired, they continued to love the Roscommon area, as well as visiting their children and grandchildren in Oregon and New Jersey.

Mrs. Feusse will be remembered for her feistiness, independence and courage. She inspired people to live life on their own terms. Despite being legally blind due to macular degeneration, she was able to live independently for years after Mr. Feusse passed, thanks to generous support from many friends and family members.

Preceding Mrs. Feusse in death was her husband of more than 50 years, Kelly, in 2014.

Surviving are her two children, Andy (Nancy) Feusse and Micky (Todd) Feusse Logan; four grandchildren: Michael Feusse, Elizabeth Feusse, Spence Logan and Harrison Logan; brother, Paul Martzowka; sister, Charlotte Kindt; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She will be missed by those who knew her.

Donations may be made to the Willamette Valley Hospice in Salem, OR.
