Raymond Lester Monroe, 91, Houghton Lake, died Aug. 17, 2020, at home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Prudenville, Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m., with Father Peter Eke officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from noon until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel, handled arrangements.

He was born June 25, 1929, in Flint, to Clarence and Marie (Turner) Monroe. He married Margaret “Peggy” Angers Feb. 5, 1966, in Flint. The couple owned and operated Travel Land RV Center in Prudenville before moving to North Carolina.

Mr. Monroe was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Flint for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and working around his home. He enjoyed NASCAR in his earlier years, and that is what originally took him and his wife to North Carolina.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Margaret Monroe; brother, Earl; and sisters, Norma, Jerry and Phyllis.

Surviving are his children, Dan (Kay) Monroe of Swartz Creek, Darrell Monroe of St. Helen, Sherry (Bob) Peterson of Prudenville, Debbie (Mike) Rice of Alexander, AR, Dawn (Dennis) Smith of Linden, Diane (Richard) Szabad of Little Rock, AR, Denae (John) Higham of Eatonton, GA, and Karen Hartel of Lake Ann; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and first wife, Peggy Jerome of St. Helen.
