Veryl Wayne Gulick died Nov. 13, 2019, at The Brook of Roscommon, surrounded by his family, at the age of 87.

A funeral service was held at St. Michael Catholic Church, Roscommon, Nov. 14. Military interment will be in Roscommon Village Cemetery at a later date. Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon, handled arrangements.

He was born at his home in Bridgeport, Feb. 25, 1932, to Lawrence and Marie (Brom) Gulick. After moving to Roscommon in the fourth grade, he proceeded to graduate from Gerrish-Higgins High School in 1950. He was a proud Korean War veteran, and served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954. He worked at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center for more than 30 years.

He enjoyed and loved his hometown of Roscommon where he was very involved in the community, including being a member of St. Michael Catholic Church for 65 years and a lifetime member of VFW Post 4159. He was a founding and lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Prince of Peace Council #6593, where he also served as past grand knight. He also launched the Saturday Night Bingo and continued to run it for 30 years.

Mr. Gulick was also a proud EMT and firefighter for Higgins Township for 25 years. In his spare time, he volunteered with the arts festival, where he served as chairman for many years, and at Christmas in the Village, where he started the craft show portion of the event. He was an all-around handyman, and loved woodworking and photographing nature. He could do almost anything.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, who will miss him dearly.

Preceding him in death were his daughter, Jeanne Marie Gulick; parents; brother, Leroy Gulick; and in-laws, Pete and Jean Waterman.

Surviving Mr. Gulick are his wife of 64 years, Marilyn Waterman Gulick; children, Carol (Russ) Cavanagh, Elaine (Dean) Wachner, Lori (Pat) Mattingly Jr. and Robert (Shawn) Gulick; grandchildren, Jeanne Cavanagh, Larry Cavanagh, Rebecca (Nick) Lademan, Jennifer (Paul Kalka) Wachner, David (Megan Marek) Wachner, Morgan Gulick, Lauren Gulick, Taylor (Jake) Howard and Jacob Thayer; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Chloe and Ryann Wachner, Ella Kalka, Christopher and Theodore Lademan, Grayson and Jackson Howard and Hanna Thayer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
